Nordz's ceramics practice merges self-taught techniques with a deep respect for traditional Mesoamerican and Americana methods. Nordz focuses on creating functional pieces that tell a story through their design and materials. By using glazes that reflect the colors and textures of Southern California’s landscapes and incorporating hand building techniques alongside wheel-throwing, they produce ceramics that are both practical and artistically rich.
Influenced by their training as a certified California naturalist, Nordz integrates natural materials and ecological knowledge into their work. Their goal is to connect people to a sense of place and time, exploring concepts like time-space compression through ceramics -- as well as instant photography and prose. This approach aims to visually and tactilely represent the convergence of past and present through imagery, technique, and materials.
Nordz attempts to create ceramics that resonate deeply with viewers, provoking thoughtful reflection, and cultivating deeper connection with the world that precedes and follows them.
